Required thickness = target R-value ÷ selected R per inch. Batts use whole packages by area. Loose fill uses area × required thickness ÷ 12 divided by installed bag volume. Closed-cell foam uses area × thickness in inches (board feet) divided by kit yield. Available depth determines the approximate achievable R, not code compliance.
